All I can say is what a year.

2025 was a year of growth and a year of discomfort as well, all while juggling a full time job on top of it but I wouldn't change it for the world.

My priorities were different last year than 2024 and it helped me become more successful.

This post might ruffle some feathers but it's a hill I'll stand on until the end of time. I've been doing permanent jewelry for 2 years and I've been creating jewelry since 2020, a year before I launched my official jewelry business in 2021.

While I'm self taught in almost everything I do, these last 5 years have taught me a ton and it's helped me introduce this service into my business the right way. Over these last several months, I've realized that people are jumping into the permanent jewelry industry without any knowledge of metals or the proper tools to do it safely and correctly. They think it's a get rich quick business. It's not. Proper, high quality welding machines can cost around 3 thousand dollars. What you invest in matters.

I've fixed so many pieces of permanent jewelry that weren't welded properly or weren't welded at all. I've even fixed a piece that was done with a SOLDERING IRON. Talk about unsafe and hazardous! I've replaced pieces from other businesses that were sold as gold filled but ended up flaking within days and turning dark. Imagine the customer's face when you tell them it was actually plated.

Unpopular opinion: don't market yourself as permanent jewelry if you're not even welding the jump ring.

Most customers don't know the difference between plated and gold filled and it's our responsibility to teach them and make sure we're marketing our chains honestly and providing them with the correct knowledge and terminology.

There are so many things to consider with permanent jewelry, including pacemakers, nickel allergies and understanding the chemical makeup of the metals you're using so you can confidently answer your customers' questions.

I spent months contemplating adding permanent jewelry before I launched it, but I went into it knowing I'd be able to educate my customers and guide them in the right direction.

While the price of gold today is around 3300 a Troy ounce, this also means that gold-filled jewelry is pretty well affected from that price too. It may not be 100 percent gold through and throughout but the 5% gold of the total jewelry weight is enough to feel the pain when it increases.

THIS IS YOUR REMINDER TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELRY.

I mean look at the difference in that sparkle and shine, you should be cleaning your wedding rings and engagement rings biweekly or monthly. There are a ton of jewelry stores that offer cleanings. I was able to throw mine into the ultrasonic and get all the grime out from my diamonds.

Don't have a jeweler to go to and want to clean yours at home?

You can clean your rings by using mild soap and a soft bristle toothbrush. Ideally let the ring sit for some time before scrubbing! (About 20 minutes). This is the method I used to clean mine before I got an ultrasonic cleaner.

Please don't go out and buy an ultrasonic cleaner without knowing what you should and should not put in it, there are certain stones to avoid placing in the ultrasonic and should consult a jeweler before doing so!

Reflecting back to yesterday's grand opening I'm emotional and so grateful for how much I have grown since opening Erin's Atelier back in 2021. Growth can only happen when you're willing to take chances and do scary things. I've made so many decisions that have made me think of what could go wrong first before what can actually go right. It's in those moments you have to fight the negative "what if's" and believe it's all going to work out. Now I'm not saying I'm not subject to failure because in reality, it can totally happen but failure is an opportunity to learn and do better. I'm going to take those chances and learn from them if they ever happen.

This past week was the first time I ever solo traveled out of state by myself and what an experience it was. I got to spend a week near Fort Lauderdale doing a stone setting class with the talented Eddie at ASJ. I am so grateful that my business has brought me to this point. I learned how to set many types of stones in all types of settings (not all pictured). I got to see a friend I haven't seen in over a decade and visited a different beach when I could including Pompano, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Hollywood.
